I suppose if I had a ‘do over’ (a mulligan if you are a golfer), I would have flossed more often and spent much more time with my grandparents listening to their stories……about their times, about their lives. But like all youngsters, I was too busy being a kid.
Rarely does a young person have the patience or the curiosity to hear stories from an older person’s life. Having four grandchildren was all the encouragement I needed to write.
As I wrote I found I had more to talk about. And that my stories would entertain and be relevant to those of all ages and all walks of life.
The details in the oral history of one’s family fade over time. If nothing else, I hope that your reading of my stories not only entertain but encourage you to take your own pen to paper. Share the moments that shaped your life with the people you care about.
I believe that the greatest gift we have is not our collection of tchotchkes or other property - it is our stories. For who we are is the compilation of the stories of our lives.
